To the left of the stairs: move goldenrod and its seedlings after it bloomed. Divide allium patch after leaves start to yellow. Move hostas in early fall same as ground cover.
Above the grill: only survivor is the carnations, transplanted to front garden.
To the right of the grill: goldenrod and aster needs to be halved. Tall phlox to be transplanted in spring, before new growth begins. Each division should consist of three to five vigorous shoots with roots attached. When planting, position the crowns an inch or so below the soil surface.
